Courses & Workshops
Since 2005, the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) has provided funding to NJC to educate judges in state-specific education. Through this grant funding, NJC has assisted 13 states with state-specific education for judges on how to handle a capital case. Starting in 2008, NJC has assisted 6 states to design and present education to a multi-disciplinary audience comprised of judges, prosecutors and defense attorneys. There is no additional BJA funding remaining to underwrite the cost of implementing the workshops. However, if your state judges are interested in receiving education on how to handle capital cases, please email njc-capitalcases@judges.org.
The National Judicial College also annually offers a 4-day class entitled Handling Capital Cases (JS 623). In 2010, Handling Capital Cases (JS 623) will be held on July 12-15, at NJC in Reno, NV. For more information visit the NJC website. Scholarship assistance is available.
